Roberts Cottages
704 The Strand N, Oceanside

Built c. 1928, the cottages constitute one of the best surviving examples of auto-court beach cottages. Representing an important part of Oceanside's early tourism industry, the cottages were later sold individually to various owners, said to be one of the first times the condominium concept was used in California. Today many of them are still available for weekly rentals.

While these undesignated resources are vulnerable to development pressure, they have ardent local advocates and there are no current demolition or character-altering plans afoot. With community help, SOHO continues to keep the cottages high on its radar.
