WHEN THESE WINNERS bought their 1926 Spanish Revival style home in North Park, it had suffered from many alterations to its front façade, including a complete remodel of the front porch. Luckily, the previous owners were able to provide the couple with a sketch and several historic photos detailing the original design, showing that an original column, stucco wall, and arched openings had all been lost.

Many homes in North Park have undergone renovations or been torn down for modern development, leading to the loss of this iconic neighborhood's historic fabric. This couple knew they wanted to bring back the history into their home and help preserve the character in their neighborhood. With the help of further research by Alexandra and Kiley Wallace of Landmark Historic Preservation, and construction by contractor Michel Khozam and his team at ZMK Construction, the couple completed a full restoration, rebuilding the porch per its original design—down to the decorative tile inserts.

For careful and thoughtful work bringing this staple North Park bungalow back to its historic form, SOHO congratulates Kate and Brandon Bryan on receiving the Gift to the Street Residential Restoration Award.
