Bill & Karen Strack
Residential Restoration Award

Strack familyThis Craftsman home is connected to Master Architect David O. Dryden and George Klicka, central figures in North Park history. The residence, first designated in 2011 as a contributor to the Dryden Historic District, was listed individually as a local historic resource in January for demonstrating significance under three additional criteria. The unanimous Historical Resources Board vote was the culmination of the owners' ambitious four-year restoration project.

Built in 1917 by Dryden during a particularly productive period in his career, this two-story home is a notable example of his work. It showcases his skill for quality design and construction. There are several two-story Dryden houses in the historic district, but a second story setback makes this one unique.

Adding to the home's significance, George Klicka lived there from 1921 to 1925. He helped shape North Park's development through the Klicka Lumber Company, Klicka Mortgage Company, and North Park Business Club.

A formidable challenge when purchased in 2014, the house had suffered many indignities, ranging from insensitive alterations to deferred maintenance. Now faithfully restored, it has regained its rightful place within the wondrous collection of historic homes along Pershing Avenue.
