2026 City Council District 2 Candidate Q&A

Graphic showing voting pins.

City Council District 2 candidates were invited to participate in a Q&A addressing issues that directly affect the historic neighborhoods, cultural landscapes, and community identity of District 2 and the broader balance between growth, livability, and preservation.

Public service requires responsiveness and engagement with community organizations, stakeholders, and policy discussions. A willingness to participate in substantive civic dialogue is an important indicator of preparedness for public office and the ability to communicate effectively with the communities one seeks to represent. To that end, those invited were given ample time and opportunity to participate.

We appreciate those who valued this opportunity to participate thoughtfully and provide voters with insight into their positions on these important issues.

Why District 2 Matters
SOHO is focusing on District 2 in this primary election because the area is facing unique pressures on its historic neighborhoods and landmarks. Preservation issues are at the forefront of local planning and development, and the decisions made by District 2’s next councilmember will have a direct impact on the character and heritage of coastal communities such as Ocean Beach.

If you live in District 2, we urge you to read the candidates’ responses carefully, take note of any non-responses, and vote with housing policy, environmental sustainability, economic development, neighborhood stability, infrastructure planning, public health, and the long-term cultural identity of District 2 in mind.

If you do not live in District 2 but have friends, family members, or coworkers in the district, please forward this information so they can be informed before voting.
