Subject: I oppose the Golden Pacific Powerlink
Dear (Official's Name),
I am writing to express my strong opposition regarding the proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink and its potential route through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and surrounding irreplaceable historic landscapes.
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is one of California’s greatest public treasures. As the state’s largest state park, it protects extraordinary desert wilderness, wildlife habitat, dark skies, Indigenous cultural sites, recreational opportunities, scenic vistas, fossil resources, and historic landscapes that belong to all Californians.
I am especially concerned about the potential impacts to important historic and cultural resources in the region, including the Warner–Carrillo Ranch House, which is a National Historic Landmark; Eagle Rock; historic travel corridors; and other priceless cultural landscapes tied to the history of Indigenous peoples, ranching, settlement, and early transportation throughout Southern California’s desert region.
The introduction of industrial-scale transmission infrastructure—including prominent towers, access roads, staging areas, and long-term utility corridors—would permanently damage the scenic, cultural, and historic integrity and natural beauty of this protected landscape.
I am also troubled that major transmission corridors often lead to additional industrial development across adjacent desert lands. Past projects have demonstrated how one transmission line can fundamentally and detrimentally transform an entire region over time.
I respectfully ask that you:
- Oppose any route crossing Anza-Borrego Desert State Park or impacting significant historic and cultural resources, like the Warner–Carrillo Ranch House
- Support full review of alternatives that avoid protected public lands and sensitive historic landscapes
- Ensure transparency and meaningful public participation throughout the review process
- Include Tribal consultation and protection of cultural resources
- Help preserve the long-term ecological, scenic, historic, and economic value of this irreplaceable region
California can meet its energy goals without sacrificing one of its most extraordinary landscapes and heritage areas.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Your Name
City, State
