 The Marston House gardens are a delight anytime of year. The Marston family’s great love for flowers is legendary, evident in the hundreds of roses and flowering plants originally planted around their new house in 1905, and at the Marston department store, famous for its tremendous, year-round floral displays from local flower farms.
This year, as an ode to the Marstons’ florid love affair we bring the gardens indoors with a special blossoming holiday theme. The Marston House will be bedecked with floral décor! Decorated trees will highlight its rooms, blooming in a variety of floral ornament, taking cues from the colors of the rooms’ fine art, art pottery, and Tiffany lamps; and the views of bountiful gardens through the windows
The festive trees make their debut on Sunday, November 27, 2022, 10am-4pm, when we celebrate the international event Museum Store Sunday. We invite you to the Museum Store Association’s signature annual happening and consumer shopping campaign that directly supports arts and cultural institutions around the world.
“Be a Patron” is this year’s Museum Store Sunday theme, during Thanksgiving weekend. Holiday shoppers will find quality gifts and uncommon merchandise filled with inspiration and educational value, and, through their purchases, will directly support the Marston House Museum and its cultural programming.
When you, patron for a day, purchase gifts or irresistible treasures from the Museum Shop, you help sustain the museum’s service to the public and to the local makers whose work is prominent, another Marston family tradition that SOHO carries on by supporting the arts.
Meet the artists on Museum Store Sunday! Mingle with San Diego artists whose work is shown in the shop and the museum—and is available for sale! Enjoy complimentary hot cider and baked goods as you peruse the distinctive items on offer in the charming carriage house that is now the Marston House Museum Shop.
