UHHS Celebrates 125 Years of SDSU in University Heights
November/December 2022

University Heights Historical Society presents articles and a walking tour, all written by Kristin Harms, UHHS's president, to commemorate SDSU's 125th anniversary. Today's mighty university began in University Heights as the San Diego Normal School, which trained elementary school teachers.

Click on the links below to read the articles about the Normal School and to access the society’s self-guided walking tour of buildings that were once part of the campus, and later buildings associated with San Diego City Schools. Thousands of local children went to regular school there in a "laboratory" setting, where their student teachers were also being instructed and graded.

SOHO joins UHHS and others in strongly urging the San Diego Unified School District to restore and adaptively reuse the historic Normal School’s remaining buildings.
