Two SOHO Museums, Two Remarkable Stories on KPBS
September/October 2026

SOHO was delighted to see both the Marston House Museum & Gardens and the Warner-Carrillo Ranch House Museum featured in August on KPBS’s Museum A Month, a series created by KPBS anchor and reporter John Carroll to spotlight San Diego’s museums and cultural institutions.

The two features tell very different stories, reflecting the remarkable range of the historic places SOHO preserves and shares with the public.

At Marston House, KPBS explores the life and legacy of George Marston, the most influential San Diegan whose vision helped shape Balboa Park and whose 1905 home remains one of the park’s most beloved architectural treasures.

At Warner-Carrillo Ranch House, the focus turns to the 1857 adobe that has survived nearly 170 years, offering a glimpse into San Diego County’s early ranching history and the important but often-overlooked role of women in the region’s story, with the remarkable legacy of Vicenta Carrillo.

We’re proud to share both features with our members and friends.

Our thanks to John Carroll and KPBS video journalist Carlos Castillo, and to our museum educators, Robin Lakin and Kathryn Fletcher, for helping share the stories of these two remarkable historic places with a wider audience.
