Fall Treasures at the Marston House Museum Shop
By Dean Glass
September/October 2023

Just in time for fall, the Marston House Museum Shop has new lines and products perfect for anyone on your birthday, anniversary, or holiday gift list.

We are big on graphics and design at SOHO, so when we found these new arrivals—striking puzzles and eye-catching artists’ note cards—we were excited. We research hundreds of product lines throughout the year to pick just a few we think you will like each season.

High-quality plant-inspired jigsaw puzzles from Frondescence are simply gorgeous, with uniquely shaped pieces that fit together seamlessly. They come in beautiful, foil-lettered boxes that don’t need to be wrapped to make a fantastic gift. Frondescence produces puzzles that are not just fun to put together, but are themselves works of art. Stunning!

Starting from a modest concept of crafting a puzzle featuring the iconic NYC subway map, the New York Puzzle Company has flourished and garnered a dedicated following among puzzle enthusiasts worldwide. NYPC's aesthetics and iconic imagery inspire a feeling of both nostalgia and amusement. Their puzzles are not only challenging, but also irresistible eye candy.

Our New York Puzzle Company selection includes designs from vintage covers of Sunset, House & Garden, and Vogue magazines from the early 20th century. Wait until you see the 1914 Sunset holiday issue that features Santa delivering “toys” for the upcoming 1915-16 San Diego Expo in Balboa Park! What a great gift for a collector of San Diego history!

Left Little Green’s artist Katie Dean says, “My mission is to enhance people’s lives through the beauty that inspires me. I love exploring nature. I love to create and have a passion for expressing life…, any way to share the common journey we all travel together, be it bumpy or smooth.” Image courtesy Little Green. Right Artist Susannah Bleasby says her life’s work has “become endlessly chasing that deeply satisfying feeling of ‘yes … this is IT’ through my art in a way I hope others connect to.” Image courtesy Susannah Bleasby Art

Note cards are one of our most popular items at the Marston House Museum Shop. With our focus on art and design, we strive to bring you attractive cards by new artists, along with some of your classic favorites. We think you’ll appreciate two talented newcomers:

Artist and printmaker Katie Dean handprints her botanical designs for her Little Green line using linoleum blocks and cotton paper. Her vibrantly colored art greeting cards and natural themes exude beauty and artistry, with a 1970s Pop Art vibe.

And with boldly colored blank note cards by Susannah Bleasby, you can add nature’s color and joy to your personal greetings. She favors bright breezy skies and slightly abstract flowers in sophisticated compositions.

Don't miss out on these delightful new items nestled among a trove of other charming and beautiful home and garden gems, and a great book collection. Visit the Marston House Museum Shop on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, at 3525 Seventh Avenue, San Diego

Remember, SOHO members save 15% on Museum Shop purchases. Happy shopping!
