Breaking Down Barriers: Museums Open Their Doors to All
September/October 2023

Access to museums can be a luxury for the privileged few, with the cost of admission an obstacle for low-income and financially strained families.

SOHO, along with 700 museums nationwide, is partnering with the Museums for All organization to ensure that more people can experience the Marston House Museum in Balboa Park and the Warner-Carrillo Ranch House in Warner Springs.

By simply presenting their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, families who are facing economic challenges and benefit from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can now enjoy free admission to both museums year-round.

To find a list of museums that accept EBT cards and for detailed information, visit the Museums for All website. Use the site’s search box to locate participating museums nearby.

SOHO's goal is to ensure all visitors feel welcome within the historic walls of their house museums, which beautifully represent two distinct families, eras, and ways of life. As the holiday season approaches, these museums offer an enchanting and educational opportunity for family or friends outings to experience San Diego’s fascinating past.

By eliminating the financial barriers that have traditionally limited museum access, SOHO and Museums for All are fostering inclusivity. We invite everyone to engage with and enjoy historic preservation, history, art, and culture at our house museums.

Through this modest partnership, the transformative power of museums can begin to inspire and educate visitors, making sure that no one is left behind when it comes to exploring our shared heritage.
