Focus on Board Member Dan Soderberg
September/October 2021

Photos by Dan Soderberg, 1972

SOHO board member Dan Soderberg is receiving national attention for his color photographs of the Samuel and Harriet Freeman House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which he photographed extensively in 1972, when the Freemans were in residence. A 2020 publication from the Journal of Organic Architecture + Design includes a color portfolio of Dan's previously unpublished exteriors and interiors of the house.

The iconic Los Angeles property, a textile-block design completed in 1925, is now on the market for $4.3 million and Dan's historic photographs accompany the real estate publicity. Images from the set have also been picked up by publications such as Architectural Digest, Dwell, and Travel & Leisure. All credit Dan for what is now especially valuable documentation since the house needs major restoration. Much of the custom furniture designed by architect Rudolph Schindler when he expanded the house will stay.

Congratulations, Dan! And thank you for your generous support of historic preservation through photography, video, and your many other talents.
