Great American Outdoors Act Passes!

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation on June 26, that will provide the greatest investment in historic and cultural resources on our public lands in more than a generation. The Great American Outdoors Act, will invest up to $9.5 billion annually to repair National Park Service and other federal agencies' historic assets. The act also includes $900 million annually to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund. An indirect bonus is job creation. It passed on a bipartisan vote of 73-25.

More than 850 groups, including SOHO, and tourism and recreation businesses wrote Congress in support of this act. The House is expected to pass the same or a similar bill.

The National Trust for Preservation encourages us to write to our Congresspersons to urge them to vote yea without delay on this bill, as it would provide consistent funding that preservation and conservation communities have been asking to happen for years.
