Dean Glass has studied San Diego history since he was a child. He has been an integral part of Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO) since 2004, when he first volunteered as a docent educator at the Whaley House Museum. Having been a Whaley House enthusiast since first visiting on a fourth-grade field trip, his avid interest and knowledge of the museum’s history helped him to fit right in. It did not take long for SOHO to welcome him into a full-time role in 2005, and he helped SOHO transition that neglected historic site into a restored, curated worldwide destination. Over the past two decades, Dean's responsibilities have expanded significantly, encompassing crucial roles in administration, membership management, and accounts oversight.

Dean also serves as liaison to the SOHO board of directors. Along with these demanding roles, his wide spectrum of duties includes educational programming, museum shop merchandising, and, occasionally, staffing the Marston House Museum Shop.

As a member of SOHO's communications team, Dean contributes to Our Heritage News, our bi-monthly eNewsletter, and co-manages the social media team. He enhances SOHO's online presence and public engagement, sharing preservation-related insights, updates, and historical anecdotes with the community.

Also, a researcher and historian, Dean reached a significant personal and professional milestone in 2016 as the author of SOHO's book, The History and Mystery of the Whaley House, now in its third printing. His determination to preserve and share the captivating tales woven into one of San Diego's beloved historic landmarks sprang from his meticulous research and factual storytelling, which contributed to the book's immense popularity.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Dean shares life in San Diego's historic University Heights neighborhood with Larry, his partner of 17 years. Their cozy home is also inhabited by a feisty, yet endearing Siamese cat named Kitty, adding feline charm to their household.

Dean exemplifies the passion and dedication required for the grueling advocacy work that underpins SOHO's reason for being. His diverse talents and contributions strengthen SOHO's collaborative work culture and driving mission to preserve and honor San Diego's rich history and cultural heritage.
