Walking Tours Let You Explore Historic Neighborhoods
March/April 2022

Whether you take a self-guided historic neighborhood tour walking at your own pace, or join others with a well-versed human guide, you’re in for a refreshing and stimulating time. As we enter our third year of Covid-19, walking outdoors is one of the best ways to take a break from indoor activities and to stretch your legs and mind.

SOHO is pleased to announce our 2022 guided tours, with four offered every third Sunday at and around the Marston House Museum & Gardens. This popular series is now in its seventh year. Tour times are staggered, so you can take more than one each day, if you wish.

You’ll also find at the end of this article a list of SOHO’s self-guided tour booklets and we want to draw your attention to other non-profit organizations’ walking tours. Taking them will support San Diego’s varied cultural heritage groups throughout the city.

Walking tours are sure to improve one’s mood while enjoying San Diego’s handsome historic neighborhoods, architecture, and social history. This activity, often set in attractive, soothing landscapes, keeps your physical and mental health strong. Tours offer total immersion while moving, or what you might call enriching distractions from COVID’s shadow.

Tour guides are local volunteers with a love for San Diego’s historic places and authentic character. SOHO guides are familiar with history, architectural styles, and historical context. We welcome you to volunteer to lead tours, too! Check out SOHO’s program. The more volunteers we have the richer the variety of tours we can provide.

We encourage you to seriously consider your engagement with historic walking tours as part of a successful wellness program. From supporting mental health and improving sleep to lowering blood pressure and regulating blood sugar, the benefits of walking go far beyond burning calories. Adding some interesting historic urban scenery might be the key to adding to your daily step count!
