Wanted: Young Preservationists for Youth Docent Program

SOHO invites San Diego County teens ages 12-17 to volunteer for an exciting and unique museum experience as a youth docent. The Whaley House Museum in Old Town San Diego enjoys an international reputation for being one of America's best known haunted historic house museums, and has been featured on dozens of television and radio programs, including the History Channel, Ghost Adventures, and Buzzfeed. Renowned for its haunted folklore, the 1857 Whaley House, built by Thomas Whaley, a former New York merchant and Gold Rush pioneer, holds more history (and secrets!) within its walls than perhaps any other building in San Diego.

SOHO accepts applications for this important position November through August.

What does a Whaley House Museum youth docent do?

• Youth docents are trained to interpret exhibits and share history
• Bring a vibrancy to the museum experience through storytelling
• Lead craft workshops
• Interact with visitors from around the globe
• Look out for the needs of museum visitors
• Learn about and share with visitors local history and the benefits of historic preservation
