SOHO Lady Retires at 50

Many of you SOHO members are well-deserving recipients of the SOHO Lady, which was awarded beginning in our founding year, 1969. For those of you who are less familiar with this infamous SOHO treasure, let's go back to1969, when this once sophisticated table lamp was fished out of a dumpster by members Courtney and Denise Gonzalez.
With frayed fringe and a faded dress (as well as some prettier additions over the years), the SOHO Lady has been awarded annually by one SOHO member to another. It honors someone who has gone far above the typical SOHO call of duty to demonstrate strong preservation advocacy. The Lady was first displayed in the home of Peggy and Tom Shepley, and has been passed down every year until now. And when given this advocacy prize, the winner was required to prominently display it for the full year, being fully aware that a SOHO member might drop by at any time to check that the SOHO Lady was visibly displayed in all her glory.
In our 50th year, SOHO is retiring this charming Lady, but first, we want to honor all the past recipients for their outstanding service. We hope the full list of awardees below brings back many happy memories.
The Lady also curtseys to all of SOHO's volunteers over the last half century who have brought SOHO to this great milestone.
If you want to check on the SOHO Lady, she will be prominently displayed in the SOHO Offices, 4015 Harney Street, for the next 50 years!
