Maria E. Curry
A distinguished preservation scholar and cultural heritage leader, María E. Curry has more than three decades of experience in the field. She serves as a professor at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and is the director of the Department for Monitoring Tangible Cultural Heritage within the State Secretary of Culture, where she oversees statewide identification, evaluation, and policy development for cultural resources.
María is an architectural engineer with a master’s degree in restoration of monuments, and holds a PhD in historic preservation from Cornell University. She also serves as the state's representative to ICOMOS Mexicano, supporting international preservation standards and cross-border collaboration.
Her career includes key positions in Mexico’s federal government, university teaching roles in architecture and preservation, and work in the United States as a preservation specialist with FEMA. A longtime supporter of historic preservation, María has contributed to organizations including ICOMOS Mexicano, SOHO, Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association, and the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. She currently serves on the board of the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center.
