Residential Restoration Award
 When this couple inherited their 1929 Spanish Revival style house, many of its character-defining features were still intact-a tiled fireplace, a chandelier with matching sconces and a gracefully curving wrought iron stair case led to the second floor. But hit-and-miss maintenance and some ill-advised changes had taken their toll over the years. The home was built by Carl B. Hayes, and as the owners dug into the home's history and era, the more excited they got about doing right by this romantic retreat on expansive grounds.
Add to their enthusiasm the facts that this couple is meticulously detail-oriented and chose to be involved in every restoration decision. They drew on SOHO's Old House Resource Directory, which you can find on SOHO's web site, to hire top-notch artisans, craftsmen, architects, and contractors for exacting work on the house inside and out. In the process, they became ardent preservationists, who enjoy sharing their home, especially with fellow historic home lovers. They're also proud of the way their newly gleaming home fits into its historic, Spanish Revival neighborhood.
It's entirely fitting that the jury applauds DeLayne and Devin Harmon with a beautiful Residential Restoration Award.
