Lucy Berk
Lifetime Achievement

Lucy Berk has been an inspiration to many preservationists over the years. She is a walking encyclopedia of Escondido history. Her wealth of knowledge, developed partly from her Masters degree in public history and historic preservation and from studying a half century of newspapers in Escondido. She retired in 1995 as librarian for the Times Advocate and she has written the definitive record of that paper.

This influential preservationist has led historic preservation awareness in Escondido's downtown through scholarly research, educational outreach and public advocacy. She has helped countless researchers with questions on local architecture, genealogy and historic events as a volunteer in the Pioneer room. She has given free public tours of downtown Escondido for more than 20 years! She has served on the Design Review Board for many years and was chair of the Historic Preservation Commission in 2000. We honor and acknowledge this lifelong dedication and passion for the preservation of historic and cultural resources with the Lifetime Achievement, "We Love Lucy" award.
