November 6
Kate Sessions Birthday Celebration
11am-2pm
Marston House & Gardens
3525 Seventh Avenue

Kate Sessions statue in Balboa ParkCome help us celebrate the birthday of one of San Diego's first tree-huggers and the person many would say is most responsible for turning Balboa Park into an urban oasis. Kate Sessions would be 153 years old this year and that calls for a party! Join us at the Marston House on Saturday, November 6, 11am-2pm to enjoy the festivities.

Activities include a brief history of Sessions and her efforts to plant trees in Balboa Park by horticultural historian Nancy Carter, a bus tour of the park's urban forest guided by Mission Hills nursery owner and tree authority Fausto Palafox, a guided talk and walk by Balboa Park landscape historian Ranger Kim Duclo from the Marston House to the Kate Sessions statue, a Geranium George plant sale, and of course, cake and lemonade.

We have joined together with two organizations with strong ties to Kate Sessions and Balboa Park to create a fun-filled day: the San Diego Floral Association who, now in their 100th year helped develop Balboa Park and preserve native groves of oak and Torrey pines; and the Friends of Balboa Park, whose work has funded projects that enhance, protect and preserve the park's legacy.
