The La Playa Trail Association is pleased to announce another in a series of informative programs to share the history of the Point Loma area. Dr. Ray Ashley of the San Diego Maritime Museum will speak on "Rebuilding San Salvador, Cabrillo's 1542 Ship of Discovery." A parking lot across from San Diego airport has been transformed into a 16th century shipyard. The San Salvador is being constructed there at Spanish Landing, and after two years it is about 60% complete. After construction the San Salvador will remain on exhibit as part of the San Diego Maritime Museum's fleet of historic and replica ships and will travel along the California coast as an ambassador for San Diego. The public is invited to learn more about the project.
The evening will begin with hors d'oeuvres at 5:30 and the program at 6pm. Donations of $10 will be gladly accepted at the door.
