History Alive presents Chinese immigration to California in the 19th and early 20th centuries

7pm
H. Lee House Cultural Center
3205 Olive Street, Lemon Grove, CA 91945

One of our region's historical powerhouses, Murray Lee brings fresh perspectives to a stirring story: Chinese immigration to California in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the remarkable legacy of community service from their descendants into present time. Dr. Lee's story centers on the "Stingaree," the Chinese neighborhood in downtown San Diego, also known as the Red Light District. The opium dens, brothels, and gambling dens of yore were mingled with family homes and legitimate businesses run by people who helped to build San Diego.
