Den Mother of the Lemon Grove School District

7pm
H. Lee House Cultural Center
3205 Olive Street, Lemon Grove, CA 91945

Ilse Hanning, for nearly 60 years a leader in education in Lemon Grove, will discuss the modern evolution of the Lemon Grove School District into a multicultural, multilingual institution with immigrant students from many lands.

Hanning co-chaired two successful school bond issues in 1998 and 2008, was the former assistant superintendent of the district, a former principal of Golden Avenue School, a mentor to countless teachers, staff and students, and a two-term school board member. Hugely popular in the community, she has led Soroptimist International of Lemon Grove in several board positions for decades, chaired the redesign and expansion of St. John of the Cross Parish School, raised a family, became a world traveler, and learned to speak several languages (her native German, English, Spanish and French).

Hanning is an accomplished public speaker whose humor and insight into her years in the trenches of public education will surely bring "history alive."

Refreshments will follow the presentation. "History Alive" is free to the public and suitable for ages 13 and over. Information: (619) 460-4353.
