History Alive presents Around Mt. Helix

7pm
H. Lee House Cultural Center
3205 Olive Street, Lemon Grove, CA 91945

Around Mt. Helix (Arcadia 2015) is a pictorial history of Mt. Helix, the 1,375-foot landmark peak in east San Diego County, and the Mt. Helix Nature Theatre built in 1925 for annual Easter Sunrise Services, a tradition that continues today.

Author James D. Newland interweaves Mt. Helix's connections with the surrounding communities of El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley and others, and relates the many events that have occurred in the nature theatre over nine decades. The park is run by the private Mt. Helix Park Foundation. Newland is the president of the La Mesa Historical Society, a senior state parks historian and author of several books about California history.
