Arts & Crafts Hand Embroidery

10am-4pm

Roycroft Renaissance Artisan, Natalie Richards offers a one day instructional workshop, which will provide the beginner and the most experienced of embroiderers, classic techniques to master and use to create heirloom linens. Basic embroidery stitches presented in antique Arts & Crafts textiles will be taught in a one-day session. Students will create either a Water Lily Pillow or Table Runner and will learn proper anchoring techniques (no knot method); how to create a padded foundation; stem, satin, long and short stitches and French knots; blocking, and finishing techniques. Stitches and techniques will be taught and practiced during the class time. Techniques will be monitored during the session with basic embroidery stitches implemented into a real linen project to be accomplished.

Materials provided include

  • Water Lily Pillow or Table Runner Embroidery Kit that includes: linen (16" x 47") with marked design, ample pearl cotton thread, and a needle.
  • 5" or 6" embroidery hoop
  • Fabric scraps for practicing stitches

Students are encouraged to also bring

  • Basic Embroidery Scissors (there will be some for sharing)
  • Needle Threader (there will be some for sharing)
