Balboa Park Stars on Film Night in the Library

The Lemon Grove Historical Society presents Jack Ofield's Balboa Park: The Magic City, the Emmy-awarded (1995), one-hour network special was the first documentary made about one of the world's great urban spaces. The film showcases a day in the life of the Balboa Park, from dawn to dusk, and includes original footage from the park's landmark 1915 and 1935 expositions. The screening is part of the regional launch of the 2015 centennial celebration of Balboa Park.

Balboa Park: The Magic City was produced and directed by Jack Ofield, narrated by Lionel Van Deerlin, written by Helen-Maria Erawan, and filmed by multiple crews working almost around the clock to capture the many activities in the park. The film was produced in association with the Balboa Park Endowment Fund, KPBS, and the San Diego History Center. Deborah Szekely and the Szkeley Family Foundation made possible the restoration of the 1915 and 1935 archival footage.

The free program is suitable for ages 14 and over and is made possible by New Pacific Productions www.newpacificproductions.com in association with the Lemon Grove Historical Society and the Lemon Grove Library.
