Step into a Whaley Family Victorian Christmas
November/December 2017
By Robin Lakin

Christmas decorations at the Whaley House Enjoy the warmth and beauty of the holiday season at the Whaley House, beginning December 1, where the halls will be decked in festive finery and you can enjoy the spirit of Victorian-era Christmas with special self-guided tours.

Come to the Whaley House Museum to learn more about the history of American Christmas traditions, many of which were established during the mid-19th century, popularized by Queen Victoria. Take respite from the seasonal rush to experience a glimpse of life for the Thomas Whaley family, complete with mid-Victorian holiday decor and traditions.

A visit to this museum in Old Town San Diego is a charming way to share the holiday season with family and friends. Why not top off your outing by stopping in at one of the many neighborhood eateries offering hot cocoa or cider. Some feature Mexican California's holiday treats such as Champurrado, a traditional Mexican hot chocolate drink thickened with corn masa; tamales; and the cinnamon goodness of churros. The Whaley family would approve!
