Newly Designated Historic Homes
July 2015

There are four new designations this month at the Historical Resources Board.

1125 Fort Stockton in Mission Hills is a bungalow constructed in 1908 by building contract William Joel Butler just two months prior to the announcement of the 1915 Exposition. This building is designated under Criteria C for its distinctive features that represent the Arts & Crafts movement in San Diego.

4757 Edgeware Road in Kensington is also a bungalow, but constructed in 1912, by builder W. F. Johnson. This designation falls under Criteria C as well, and represents the Arts & Crafts movement within the opening of an attractive outlying suburb, Kensington Park.

1984 Guy Street in Mission Hills is a Tudor style cottage, or single story house, constructed in 1925 by architect Joseph W. Potter. Designated under Criteria C, this style is reminiscent of early English building precedent, through details such as a steep pitch, decorative half-timbering and a large ornamental chimney.

350 Fern Glen Road in La Jolla is also of the Tudor style. Constructed as the second of three houses in 1928 by female architect Francis Palmer, she is now recognized by the City as a Master Architect. This building is designated under criteria A, C, and D as exemplifying special elements that create a cultural landscape, embodiment of a distinctive style, and representative of a Master Architect.

Let's recognize these homeowners for their excellent restoration work and dedication in the designation process!
