Purple Glory: Marston House Parkway Gets Three Jacarandas
July/August 2018

Young jacaranda trees were planted in front of the Marston House Museum in April through the City of San Diego's Free Tree program.

We all love city street trees for contributing to a better quality of life. They provide shade, help combat the urban heat island effect, and promote sustainability. To complement the jacaranda-lined Seventh Avenue, and enhance the tree canopy beauty, and ambiance, along Seventh Avenue, SOHO recently worked with the City of San Diego's Free Tree program and arranged for three new jacarandas, the City's official urban tree, to be planted in April in front of the Marston House.

In the springtime, mature trees will be crowned by purple blossoms that complement blue, sunny skies, and pierce any gray during "June Gloom." SOHO thanks City Horticulturist Sergio Arias, who helped identify three planting locations along the Seventh Avenue right of way, directly in front of the Marston House, and District Manager for Balboa Park Operations Mario Llanos for a watering agreement.

If you would like to help increase San Diego's urban tree canopy through the City's Free Tree program, please email tsw_freetrees@sandiego.gov or call (619) 527-7500. Read more about it HERE.
