Spoiler Alert: Meet SOHO's "Jeopardy!" Contestant
July 2016

Ellen Green joined SOHO as Museum Staff Coordinator in May. Originally from Milwaukee, she majored in German and French at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She taught at the middle- and high-school levels for several years. In the mid-1980s, Ellen vacationed in Southern California, and a few months later, made San Diego her home. She has worked in administrative support for various businesses while continuing to nurture her love of teaching through private tutoring. She also was an ESL coach in a "school without walls," where she provided English conversation training to employees of Paris-based IT companies using San Diego as their classroom. After the ESL contract ended, Ellen was hired at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park—first as a park aide working as a museum host and tour guide, then promoted to Senior Park Aide in charge of volunteer support. In addition, Ellen freelances as a copy editor and proofreader.

In her free time, you can find Ellen roaming around with her camera, going on "staycation" getaways with her husband, contra dancing at Old Town, or experimenting with new recipes. Her annoying love of trivia won her a spot on "Jeopardy!" a while back, giving her a "Hollywood moment" and a trip to Maui.

As Museum Staff Coordinator, Ellen is working with staff and volunteers to keep the museums running smoothly. She's also putting her curriculum development skills back to work to revamp and update the Whaley House docent orientation and training program.

"I'm thrilled to be part of the SOHO team," Ellen said. "I appreciate how everyone has made me feel welcome while helping me learn the ropes."
