The Marston House Museum will celebrate the legacy of George W. Marston and his family and the 140th anniversary of Marston's department store by opening a new permanent exhibition on August 8. The Marston Legacy: Progress and Preservation will tell the story of the significant cultural contributions of this highly regarded family.

You can be part of this important addition to the Marston House experience by becoming a sponsor. Your contribution will help cover the costs of the development, fabrication, installation, and opening reception of the exhibition and provide funds for its long-term maintenance and upkeep.

The Marston family's lasting influence on San Diego's social, cultural, and political life, both city and countywide, cannot be overstated. Their visionary work in historic preservation and landscape conservation through the creation of parks and landmarks is especially relevant today, when development pressures, ignorance, and neglect threaten historic resources. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the fruits of the Marston family's labors and philanthropy every day in Balboa Park, Presidio Park and its Serra Museum, and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

And, of course, generations of San Diegans have fond memories of Marston's department store, which enjoyed an unparalleled reputation from August 8, 1878 through the 1960s as the premier place to shop in Southern California. Renowned for its displays of local art and flora, customers vividly recall the locally grown lilac bouquets displayed throughout the main floor and the delicious coconut cream pie served in the Tea Room. (We have the recipe.) Marston's was one of San Diego's quintessential family-owned and operated businesses, and George Marston ran it with his employees' welfare in mind.

As a San Diegan, we believe you will be proud to associate your family or business name with the Marston tradition of giving. Please consider these various levels of participation.

We hope you will join us in honoring the Marston family legacy in their own home, one of California's finest examples of Arts & Crafts architecture. Thank you for considering a sponsorship today.
