In University Heights, the handsome Teachers Training Annex #1 continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate, even though it is listed on the National Register. Groups and individuals have proposed reopening this Italian Renaissance Revival building from 1910 as a major community asset, such as a shared branch and school library. Instead, it has been languishing for years, under the ownership of the San Diego Unified School District on city of San Diego property. What could be a sparkling gem is instead a deplorable state of demolition by neglect. This should be a priority for District 3 leadership in the coming year.
